Various caregiver’s capacity building Training Programs as a part of Home-based Rehabilitation

The Caregivers' training program were conducted by renowned professionals practicing across Thane and Mumbai cities. Such kind of training allows caregivers also to be an important integral part of the team. The success of any form of therapy depends on how well it is maintained at home. It is the caregiver who plays the most important role of this carryover. Every person at home who is involved in the care of the child has to be aware and follow the best practices. This training program has turned to be a great success.

Training Program on “Role of Physiotherapy and Handling techniques of child in Homebased rehabilitation of children with Cerebral palsy”

The following training program was conducted to educate parents regarding how physiotherapy helps in relaxing the muscles that are spastic and how therapy needs to be carried over at home with their proper handling techniques.

The training program that explained the role of physiotherapy in home-based rehabilitation for children with cerebral palsy was conducted by Dr. Swarupa Kulkarni (Physiotherapist, Master of Health sciences from University of IndianapoIis,USA).The parents were explained the guidelines for handling of child and the need for utilizing small workable therapy exercises and stretching's to improve or maintain the functional independence of the children with multiple disabilities.

The training program included hands on demonstrations for the following:

  • My ofacial release or stretching to reduce lower limb tightness.
  • Chest physiotherapy: Breathing exercises, breathing techniques, respiratory muscle training.
  • Positioning in functional activities: Adequate positioning and use of adaptive equipment was explained to the parents.
  • Splinting: Parents were demonstrated the donning and doffing techniques. Red flags while using the splints were explained.
  • Transfers techniques: Parents were demonstrated safe transfers techniques, while maintaining the safety of the child

as well as the person who is transferring the child.

The hands-on training program was followed by interactive question and answer session.
